Max Whitby started his career at the BBC where he directed many science programmes and led an early collaboration between the BBC and Apple.  In 1990 he co-led a management buy-out of the BBC’s pioneering Interactive Television Unit. The resulting spin-out company, MultiMedia Corporation, went on to a successful IPO on London's AIM stock exchange. In 1994 Max co-founded the natural history digital publishing business BirdGuides, which was sold to Warners Group Publications in 2013. He continues be be involved in the field of natural history through NatureGuides, for which he has filmed wildlife around the world over the past 20 years. Max has a PhD in Chemistry from Imperial College and a life-long interest in science. In 2010 he co-founded the leading app developer Touchpress with Theodore Gray. He was CEO for the company’s first four years, during which period Touchpress published many ground-breaking apps including The Elements, The Waste Land (which Max produced with Faber’s Henry Volans), The Orchestra (with Esa-Pekka Salonen) and Disney Animated (which Apple named Best iPad App of 2013). Max and Theo are now collaborating on a new venture, RGB Research, creating beautiful periodic tables and also working together on other educational scientific projects. Max has received two BAFTA awards for RGB projects and was an executive producer on Disney Animated for which Touchpress and Disney won a BAFTA in 2014.
